Barbara Sheer, PhD, FNP-C, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Delaware, School of Nursing. Dr. Sheer has been actively involved in the NP movement for the past 40 years and has held regional, state, national and international positions in NP organizations. Among those positions were president of the AANP, chair of the National Alliance of NPs, Chair of the AANP Fellows, Chair of the Communications Subgroup and Core Steering Group Member of the International Council of Nurses /Nurse Practitioner Advanced Practice Nursing Network (ICN-NP/APNN). She developed and directed the first NP program in the state of Delaware. As a former Public Health Policy Fellow, she continues to work with multidisciplinary groups to forward the primary care agenda. She currently is a consultant for Nurse Consultant Associates, a Magnet Hospital appraiser and an NLNAC program evaluator

- US representative in planning for the 1st international nurse practitioner conference in London.
- Public Health Policy Fellow working with multidisciplinary groups to forward the primary care agenda.
- Served as the chair of the Communications Subcommittee and the Core Steering Group of ICN International Nurse Practitioner Advanced Practice Nursing Network.
